Birth Place – Muslim family in New Delhi

Family and early Life:

  • Father – Taj Mohammed Khan
  • Mother – Lateef Fatima
  • Spent first 5 years – Mangalore with his maternal grandfather – Ifthikar Ahmed.
  • Paternal grandfather, Jan Muhammad, an ethnic Pathanwas from Afghanistan
  • School – St. Columba’s School
  • College – Hansraj College (1985-88)- Bachelor’s degree in Economics

Shahrukh Khan grew up in Rajendra Nagar(Delhi).He used to live with his family in rented apartments.His father used to work with ventures in restaurants. In school times , he used to take part in many sports like hockey , football and cricket.He also acted in school times in stage plays where he received praise for his acting.

While in college life , he spent much of his time in Delhi’s Theatre Action Group under the theatre director Barry John.

Later , he decided to study for his master’s degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia.But after some time he left master’s degree just to pursue acting career.

Due to cancer , his father died in 1981 and his mother dies in 1991 due to diabetes.After such incidents , Shahnaz Lalarukh (elder sister) fell into depressed state and thren he took responsibility for her caring living in Mumbai mansion.

Personal Life:

He married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony on 25 October 1991, after a six-year courtship.

Acting career

 1988–92: Television and film debut

 He started his first starring role in Lekh Tandon’s television series Dil Dariya affter the production delay of TV series Fauji.

In April 1991 , after the grief of mother’s death he decided to move from Delhi to Mumbai to pursue his acting career.

In Mumbai , his first offer was for Hema Malini directed Dil Aashna Hai .His first debut film was Deewana- released in June 1992.For Deewana, he earned Filmfare Best Male Debut Award.

1993–94: Anti-hero

In 1993 , Khan played villain roles in Darr and murderer in Baazigar .
For Darr , he received nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.
Due to his performance in Baazigar , he won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Later he appeared in :

  • Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa – 1994
  • Karan Arjun – 1995

Also in 1994 , he received Filmfare Best Villain Award for his obsessive lover role in Anjaam.

His most significant romantic release was Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.It then became the year’s highest grossing production in India and abroad and was declared an “all time blockbuster” by Box Office India  with a gross of over ₹1.22 billion (US$19 million) worldwide.

It is the longest-running film in the history of Indian cinema; it is still showing at the Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai after more than 1000 weeks as of early 2015.
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge – won 10 Filmfare Awards.
