Early life and background

Akshay was born in Amritsar , India
Parents Name – Hari Om Bhatia(Military Officer) , Aruna Bhatia
Siblings – Alka Bhatia(Sister)

He lived and grew up  in Chandni Chowk , New Delhi and then after some years he moved to Mumbai where he lived in Koliwada , a punjabi dominated area.

School Education – Don Bosco School , Mumbai
College Education – Guru Nanak Khalsa College


But later on he dropped the college education because he was so much passionate about learning martial arts.

After obtaining black belt in Taekwando in Mumbai , he went to Bangkok , Thailand to learn Muay Thai and there he worked as chef and waiter .


After returning back to India , Akshay started his own training institute to teach martial arts.
One day one of his student suggested him that he must get into modelling which led him to modelling assignment


In first two days of modelling , Akshay earned more in comparison to his entire salary while teaching martial arts .So he chose modelling as his career path .He worked with photographer Jayesh Seth 18 months without payment to shoot his first portfolio

One day , he missed his flight for ad shoot in Bangalore .But that day changed his life because in disappointment he went to film studio along with his portfolio where he signed as lead role in the movie – DEEDAR(1992) . A BIG LESSON – JO HOTA HAI ACHE KE LIYE HOTA HAI


Akshay worked as lead actor for the first time in Saugandh(1991) .Before this , he appeared as martial art instructor in Mahesh Bhatt directed movie Aaj .


In the same year , he acted in Movie-Dancer.But the movie did not get much good reviews.

In the following year , he worked in Khiladi , detective film – Mr. Bond

In 1993 , he acted in Dil ki Baazi , Kayda Kanoon , Waqt Hamara Hai and Sainik .


In 1994 , he acted in Main Khiladi Tu Anari , Mohra .


Later he starred in Yash Chopra produced romantic movie Yeh Dillagi .For movie ‘Yeh Dillagi’ he earned first nomination in Best Actor at Filmfare Awards.

In 1994 , he appeared in total 11 bollywood movies. In 1997, he also appeared as supporting actor in romantic movie Dil To Pagal Hai for which he received his first nomination for Filmfare best supporting actor award.

Children – Aarav (Son-First Child), Nitara(Daughter-Second Child)

Hobbies- Karate , Kick Boxing , Basketball , swimming , Gym workout.
He has also donated ₹50 lakh (US$78,000) to Salman Khan ‘s Being Human Foundation.

Kumar also had donated a sum of ₹90 lacs to drought hit farmers in Maharashta in 2015. He has also donated INR 50 lacs to aid drought affected people through the Maharashtra government’s Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan

In March 2013, he started a 30-bed cancer shelter for policemen in Naigaon.



Kumar won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Rustom

In 2004, he was honoured with the Rajiv Gandhi Award for his outstanding achievements in Bollywood

was awarded the highest Japanese honour of “Katana” and a sixth degree black belt in Kuyukai Gōjū-ryū karate

He was one of the 15 international celebrities invited for the Olympics torch-bearer rally to Canada

He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. In 2011, The Asian Awards honoured Kumar for his outstanding achievement in Cinema.
